Three major projects were completed by a healthcare provider and a medical device supplier. To make better business decisions, the provider wanted to improve the quality of information it collects. It wanted to reduce labor and supply costs, to improve transaction accuracy and efficiency to reduce or eliminate the need for multiple transactions.
- The Provider needed to adopt data standards to achieve these goals.
- The provider also wanted to use automation to better manage their inventory, and wanted to eliminate differences in inventory and reduce their expired product quantity. In order to achieve these goals,
- The provider planned to place tracking tags on all the supplier's products and code the tags using data standards so that the products could be logged from the distribution center to a patient's bedside at every step of the way in the supply chain.
- The provider and supplier found a cost-saving opportunity after successfully completing the data standards and product tagging projects: standardizing endoscopy products of the provider. This standardization was unique as it was the first project of standardization led by the newly created usage management team of the provider.
- The objective of the team was to get clinical buy-in and train clinicians from the provider to use endoscopy products from the supplier.
