Remove The Negative Feelings From Your Mind

If you fell down a hole, knocked yourself out, and woke up to find yourself surrounded by total darkness not remembering how you got there, what would be the first thing you need to know to escape?

 

It would be the awareness that you’re in a hole.

 

The thing is, we’re all in various “holes” of limiting beliefs, poor habits, and low emotional states without even knowing it.  This means the first step in escaping these things is to first realize how they’re affecting you.

 

Many Eastern spiritual traditions focus around the idea of practicing mindful awareness for personal transformation.  This is also sometimes referred to as “living in the now.”

To the person raised in a typical Western environment, this whole concept of mindfulness may seem like it has absolutely nothing to do with weight loss.  But more psychological research is emerging to show the benefits of practicing mindfulness for overcoming mindless behaviors like junk food binging As I’ve engaged in this practice over the past couple years, the results have been astounding. Before practicing mindfulness, I felt like I was a victim of my life’s circumstances.  Things would make me feel a certain way, and I would react accordingly.  It felt like external causes were the reasons for my feelings.

 

What mindfulness has done is put me back in the driver’s seat of my life.  I can start to realize how certain beliefs, often which may be completely false, create negative feelings inside of me.  I’m able to better put myself in other people’s shoes and see things from their perspective.  I’m able to let go of unwanted feelings on demand as I can identify their true source.  And best of all, I’m able to stop myself from engaging in destructive habits that would destroy my health.  Or alternatively, almost effortlessly get myself to do the things I know would benefit me without having to force myself into action.

 

To practice awareness or mindfulness, simply notice all your thoughts and feelings as they occur throughout the day without judging them.

 

This may seem too simple to really do anything.  But the reason mindfulness has been promoted for thousands of years is because it works on the deepest level of our consciousness.
