Getting into a career in blockchain is not going to be easy if you don’t have the right education and the right set of skills.

Who doesn’t dream of having a secured career and a stable professional life, especially with newer technology that keeps rising and changing from time to time? Ever since the job market has witnessed the dawn of new technology like blockchain, we have also witnessed that blockchain can be presented as a solution to many industries.

According to a report by KPMG, it states that almost 42% of the tech leaders favored adopting blockchain technology in the coming next three to four years. Blockchain technology is the latest technology that is going to lay a foundation in the decentralized future. As a result, blockchain has become the center with skyrocketing job opportunities.

The rising demand for blockchain professionals

Surprising enough, the demand for blockchain professionals have increased by 517% over a year, a report by Hired (a recruitment company). Globally there is a spike in demand for job roles such as blockchain engineers, followed by security engineers (132%), and embedded engineers (76%). There are many individuals and professionals who are looking to get into the blockchain industry but are unable to do so due to lack of knowledge and skills. If you’re looking to get started with blockchain and you’re unable to do so, here’s a proper career path that can help you get started today.

How to start a career in the blockchain?

However, getting into a career in blockchain is not going to be easy if you don’t have the right education and the right set of skills. One must also realize that earning a bachelor's degree isn’t enough to land you that job. As the tech market tightens, companies are looking for candidates having the requisite set of skills, although earning a degree is a good start. But when it comes to landing a job, it is the skills that matter the most.

Here’s how you can do it-

● First, earn a blockchain education

Those looking to start a career in blockchain must at least have a bachelor’s degree in related fields like Information Technology, Computer Science, Business, Accounting, and Finance. Having a strong background in these fields shows the best way to strategically start a career in the blockchain. This is just the initial step for one looking to land a job in blockchain technology. Since blockchain is a growing technology, candidates must first learn the basics then get into the depth of it, a candidate is said to be successful only if he re-skills and keeps himself updated with the trending technologies. Apart from education, this is what you need to do next.

● Then acquire skills in blockchain technology

You need to start with the basics first. Unlike any technology, blockchain comes with a unique proposition and requires a unique set of skills. Blockchain coding is an important factor for every professional looking to get skilled in the blockchain. Having extensive knowledge in JavaScript is required if you wish you learn blockchain. If you’re an aspirant looking to learn to code for blockchain then you might as well jump to blockchain certifications to further help you execute these skills and learn how to code. If you’re aware of coding in JavaScript, you might also use GitHub and build your libraries, test and run your codes. This will not only help you gain practical experience but will also ease your coding experience.

Apart from JavaScript, you need to learn another programming language like Solidity to construct smart contracts. It is an object-oriented programming language and shares a similar syntax such as JavaScript and ECMAScript. Learning these programming languages is a head start towards blockchain related skills. Having a working knowledge in JavaScript is an added bonus to start off with Solidity.

Multichain, building public blockchain gets easier if you have expertise in multichain. Multichain is used for developing solutions meant for private blockchain that can either be permissioned or permission less.

Hyperledger, a private permissioned blockchain that is used for developing business blockchain framework using hyperledger tools.

Cryptography, having extensive knowledge in cryptography is an added advantage since blockchain is well known for its ability to secure and protect data and assets etc. and without cryptography, it might be difficult for organizations to depend on it for security purposes.

Last but not the least, forge your own career pathway

Now that one knows the prerequisites to learning blockchain but the question arises, from where can one learn blockchain today?

The blockchain market is thriving for experts skilled in these technologies, now rather than spending years at an institution, it is advisable to take up , or blockchain engineer certifications. The market is flourishing and recruiters and organizations can’t wait to hire skilled candidates.

These are some great resources from where one can earn a blockchain certification today:

● Simplilearn - This platform offers a channel for candidates looking to update their blockchain skills, and is a good start for developers who are keen on shifting their career into blockchain.

● Central Blockchain Council of America - Here one can get offered with one of the best digital credentials for professionals and freshers looking to gain their expertise in blockchain technology.

● Coursera - Coursera is essentially for software developers. The main aim of this course is to provide developers the skills in the blockchain, however, if you’re a fresher you might need to reconsider this certification.
